A ponte reabre / the bridge reopens

It might not be up there with the importance of many other bridges around the world and it certainly won’t win any engineering prizes. However, to Cabanas locals and the active holiday makers that use the ecovia route, it’s a vital link to Tavira. After being out of action for quite some time it reopened just before the Christmas break. It may be more accurate to describe it in terms of the fencing protecting it has been moved and you can cross it as opposed to an official opening but hey ho it’s better than running along the train tracks which some people had resorted to when they got to the bridge and realised it was closed. (We never saw any notices advising people it was out of commission along the approach routes)

As well as the direct link to Tavira it opens a whole new area for our walks within an hour of home. Not sure what it will be like in the summer but at the minute there’s a wonderfully quiet web of pathways between the salt pans to explore on the way to Praia Do Arraial Tavira.
