Making the most of leftovers – A planter
Whereas many blogs have been offering ideas of what to do with leftover food during lockdown I’ve been trying to get as much use out of our excess decking boards as possible. (Plus there’s no chance of any food being wasted in this household!)
This week’s recycling of off-cuts is a planter for our newly-purchased bougainvillea. The intention is to grow the tree to cover whatever residential sins I can’t face resolving at source. Thus we’ll need a larger pot than the containers we’ve been picking up from China Shopping….
The pile of timber may have somewhat dwindled but there’s still plenty for this woodsman to play / injure himself with. Who knew one of those little joists being dropped on an ankle could bruise it for so long?
Unfortunately these two little fellas are the only pieces that won’t need to be measured and cut. Need to crack on before the daily temperatures hit the 30C mark.
Measure, measure again and cut for 2 hours and as well as a few beads of perspiration you get the ingredients for a flat pack.
4 corner posts, 2 x 6 lengths of decking for the outer panels, 3 lengths for the base (cut to the corner shapes of the posts) and 4 joists for sitting the base on)
Pre-drilling to prevent the wood splitting, a few screws added and it is quickly taking shape. An hour later…………….
…………….we have the finished article. How much can I sell these for on ebay? Must remember to put the words “artisanal” and “rustic” in there.
